(The Hosting News) – Namecheap is pleased to announce that it now has 3 million domains under its management. This milestone was achieved less than a year after it reached 2 million domains at the end of June 2011.

“We’re ecstatic to have reached this substantial milestone so quickly,” Richard Kirkendall, CEO of Namecheap said. “Namecheap has achieved this success through its customer-centric business that also puts sociocultural and economic issues at the forefront. We feel that these two characteristics put us at top of mind, and we couldn’t have done it without our valued customers.”

In 2010, popular Gawker blog Lifehacker awarded Namecheap the best domain name registrar. Also in 2010, Namecheap forged a partnership with the International Tree Foundation (ITF) which continues to this day. On Earth Day 2012, in association with ITF, Namecheap planted over 3,000 trees. In early 2011, Namecheap ran a special transfer promotion that included a charity donation to Save the Elephants, an international organization that aims to secure the future for elephants and sustain the beauty and ecological integrity of the places they live in.

In late 2011, Namecheap took a significant stand against SOPA and PIPA legislation that resulted in transfers to the registrar and donations that exceeded $60,000 for the Electronic Frontier Foundation. To further protest SOPA/PIPA, Namecheap’s website went dark for a day on January 18, 2012. This resulted in a tremendous amount of buzz worldwide.

The company continues to focus on its customers and issues that surround our planet, both physically and virtually.

Further, Namecheap has a strong Twitter and Facebook presence with over 90,000 and 60,000 followers and fans, respectively, and it uses the channel aggressively for customer service and ongoing promotions. This, coupled with the company’s 24/7/365 Live Chat, has positioned the domain name registrar to be highly recommended from individuals like Evan Williams, founder of Twitter.

Namecheap ran a promotion in conjunction with the 3 million domain name registration that provided the 3 millionth domain registrant with $3,000. Two thousand domains were also awarded in the form of account credits.
